Polokwane’s Gryphon K9 Club shines as Klaus wins PSA 1 title
Dutch Shepherd Klaus and handler Marlo Taylor won the PSA 1 leg 1 stage, showcasing obedience, protection skills and a powerful bond.
POLOKWANE – A Dutch Shepherd named Klaus and his handler, Marlo Taylor recently stole the spotlight after winning a Protection Sport Association (PSA) competition.
Klaus, nearly five years old, isn’t just any dog – he comes from impressive lineage as the son of South Africa’s only dog to ever hold a PSA 3 title, the highest level in the sport.
Competing at the PSA 1 leg 1 stage, which tests both obedience and protection work, Klaus and Taylor delivered a winning performance that earned them top spot on the podium and moved them halfway toward achieving the full PSA 1 title.
Taylor, who owns and runs Gryphon K9 PSA Club in Polokwane, has been training working dogs for both sport and personal protection for several years.
His journey in PSA started back in 2017 with his German Shepherd, Czar, who reached his Protection Dog Certificate level before retiring.
Since then, Taylor has grown as a competitor and coach, guiding dogs and handlers to reach their potential.
Speaking after their win, Taylor said the achievement reflects not only hard work and dedication but also the special bond between handler and dog.
“It takes trust, consistency and a lot of training. Klaus gave his all, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come,” he said.
With Klaus already proving himself as a top competitor, the pair is now looking ahead to completing the second stage of the PSA 1 title and continuing to put Polokwane on the map in the world of protection sport.
