Black Leopards in crunch clash at Thohoyandou Stadium

Black Leopards face a must-win clash in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as they fight to escape the bottom of the log.

LIMPOPO – Time is running out for Black Leopards as they battle to secure crucial points in the first round of the Motsepe Foundation Championship League. The team faces a must-win clash against Highbury at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The club is also grappling with off-field challenges. Fifa imposed a transfer ban on Black Leopards, linked to an alleged infringement by All Stars, the team whose status Leopards purchased at the start of last season following their relegation from the Premiership in 2022/23. The ban could see the club paying a hefty fine, but Leopards are determined not to let it derail their campaign.

Head coach Joel Masutha remains optimistic, saying the team is focused on collecting maximum points. “Our goal is to lift the team out of the relegation zone before the end of the first-round fixtures. With the right performance, a climb to eighth place is possible if we win the next three matches,” he said.

Leopards defender Sidney Fakude keeps an eye on the Highbury strikers.

Assistant coach Luvhengo Mungomeni echoed the sentiment, saying that the outcome of Saturday’s game against Lerumo Lions will be a key indicator of the team’s prospects.

Currently bottom of the log with two points from four matches, Black Leopards are determined to turn their season around and prove that resilience and teamwork can overcome even the toughest challenges.
