Z’s Dance Studio qualify for international finals in Miami

Mokopane’s Z’s Dance Studio secured gold, high silver awards and Miami qualification at the American Dance Awards South Africa

MOKOPANE – A total of 22 dancers from Z’s Dance Studio recently competed in the American Dance Awards South Africa Regional Championship, held at Lewende Woord in Centurion from October 3-11.

The event featured over 1 800 dance performances from studios across the country.

Coach Zané de Wet shared that her dancers participated across a variety of age groups and dance styles, performing solos, duets, trios and group routines.

“We walked away with 18 high silver awards (scores between 86-89%) and 12 gold awards (90-94%). Five of our students also received special awards from the judges, which are given when a dancer shows something unique or exceptional in their performance.”

For the first time since launching the studio, Zané entered a large group item consisting of 15 dancers.

The group, named ‘Dansie’, ended second overall in the novice to small group category.

All 30 of the studio’s entries have qualified to represent South Africa at the international finals in Miami, Florida, next year.

“Our students are already hard at work with fundraising projects, as deposits are due by the end of October to secure our place in the competition,” Zané explained. “So if you see a dancer running a stall, please support them. They’re working hard to make their dreams come true.”
