Black Leopards held to spirited draw
Black Leopards battled back to draw with Midlands Wanderers after Musonda’s free-kick equaliser, despite dominating but missing late chances.

LIMPOPO – Black Leopards were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw against Midlands Wanderers in their Motsepe Foundation Championship clash at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Wednesday.
The opening half produced fast-paced, attacking football from both sides, much to the delight of the home crowd. Leopards maintained a strong fighting spirit despite early setbacks, as Thendo Mukumela and Zukile Mkhize went into the referee’s book in the 18th and 20th minutes, respectively.
The visitors drew first blood in the 24th minute after Leopards’ goalkeeper Loydt Kazapua fumbled an easy save, allowing Mhlengi Nxele to slot home from close range. Despite the setback, the hosts, marshalled by midfielder Donald Makgethlwa, pressed hard for an equaliser, but a disciplined Wanderers defence stood firm.

Leopards continued to dominate possession after the break and introduced Mwape Musonda for Thabana Mabena in search of more firepower up front.
The substitution paid off when Musonda levelled matters with a well-taken free kick, sparking renewed energy among the home side.
With the scores tied, Leopards began to dictate play, launching waves of attack, but failed to convert their chances into a winner as the Wanderers’ defence held out under pressure. Both teams walked away with a point, though Leopards will feel they could have claimed all three had they been more clinical in front of goal.
