Record turnout as golfers enjoy successful Kilimanjaro Golf Day

This year’s Kilimanjaro Golf Day delivered strong turnout generous sponsorship and enthusiastic interest for 2026 as the event continued its mission of supporting vulnerable communities through charity initiatives.

POLOKWANE – Golfers hit the greens for yet another successful edition of the Kilimanjaro Golf Day at the Polokwane Golf Club on Friday.

Club president, Aaron Segwapa welcomed the golfers and thanked them for taking the time to enjoy the day on the golf course: “Let us make this day a fruitful day.”

Brig Matome Makhura, Polokwane Police Station commander brought light-heartedness to the day with his address, saying he was glad to see at least 10 fewer potential victims of crimes as they are spending the day in the safety of the club.

“If you are here, it is indirectly a crime prevention strategy,” he joked.

Offering a message of support, the deputy chief director of the South African Air Force, Maj Gen Lancelot Mathebula spoke about the organiser, Sarel Nong’s commitment to social responsibility.

He congratulated and thanked him for supporting the vulnerable members of the communities through the various charity initiatives that he hosts.

Nong said he was happy with the turnout since the numbers had doubled from previous golf days, and so did the sponsors.

“The golfers also can’t wait for next year and I am already getting requests to register for next year,” he said.

He added that because of the overwhelming interest, they will be working to increase the number of players to 240 as they had to cap the number at 150 this year.
