Rising Limpopo boxer needs community backing for international event

Vhembe’s unbeaten amateur-turned-professional boxer appeals for funding to take part in an international boxing event.

LIMPOPO – Provincial champion boxer Khorommbi Tshikungu, known in the ring as The Big Dog, is appealing to the Vhembe community for financial assistance to help him participate in Boxing Under the Stars, an international boxing event scheduled to take place in Cape Town from December 31-January 14.

Tshikungu hopes to compete on the international stage, saying that contributions from as little as R750 could make a difference to his preparations and travel.

He started his boxing journey in November 2019 and quickly established himself in the amateur division, taking part in 14 fights at district, municipal, provincial and national levels and remaining undefeated throughout. He turned professional in 2023 and has since won four of his five fights.

His trainer, Nelson Mukondeleli of Ligege Boxing Academy, praised the young athlete’s commitment. “This boy will go places.

He is dedicated to his craft, and I see a lot of potential in him. He is one of the young boxers in my stable, and I see a bright future ahead for him.”

Mukondeleli added that they welcome donations or sponsorships from individuals and businesses.

“We kindly request support that will enable him to compete at this championship. We are open to partnerships and appreciate every contribution,” he said.
