Sekhukhune edge Magesi to climb Betway table

Sekhukhune United secured a win over Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium, moving up to third place in the Betway Premiership standings.

LIMPOPO – Sekhukhune United went head-to-head with Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium last Wednesday for the Betway premiership.

Sekhukhune, known as ‘Babina Noko’ secured a narrow 1-0 victory over ‘Dikwena tsa meetse’ which helped them climb to the third place with 25 points on the league table.

The win keeps the Babina Noko in the race as they are only one point behind Mamelodi Sundowns and three points behind log leaders, Orlando Pirates.

Magesi, meanwhile, dropped to 15th place.

Sekhukhune dominated the first half with Vusimuzi Mncube taking the lead for his team in the sixth minute, which passed through the hands of goal keeper Elvis Chipezeze.

Bright Ndlovu of Sekhukhune United is the man of the match.

Magesi grew into the game feeling the pressure with Thabang Sibanyoni, who fired a threatening long shot from a corner in the 32nd minute.

The second half was dominated by tension as Magesi was fighting desperately to equalise; however, goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner responded swiftly to the attempts. Despite the pressure applied by Magesi in the last minute, the match ended goalless on their side, while Sekhukhune head into 2026 with renewed confidence.

Both teams will take to the pitch in late January after the Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to take place from December 21 to January 18 in Morocco.
