Potties Athletic Club celebrates top 2025 runners

Cecilia Ferreira was named sports person of the year as the Potties Athletic Club celebrated its top achievers at its annual prize-giving ceremony in December.

MOKOPANE – Potties Athletic Club awarded their top runners of 2025 during the club’s annual prize-giving ceremony held at the Bosveld Canteen Pub and Grill in December.

Ahead of the ceremony, the club’s athletes took to the streets for a last club run for the year.

The award for sports person of the year went to Cecilia Ferreira, who participated in a variety of competitions and achieved several personal best times during the year. Last year, the club had a junior team that participated in cross-country competitions and performed well.

Each of them received a gift for their participation.

  • Walker of the year – Johanna Modisha.
  • ‘Vasbyter’ of the year – Retha du Toit.
  • Best performer – Lizanie van Statden.
  • 1 000km challenge – Lesiba Letaha.
  • Toilet roll trophy – Stephan Ferreira.
  • Fastest marathon trophy – Lesiba Letaha with a time of 3:48:35.
  • Last Comrades trophy – Tienie van Wyngaardt.
  • First female Comrades trophy – Cecilia Ferreira.
  • First male Comrades trophy – Lesiba Letaha.
  • Strava runner of the year – Sarie Coetzee.
  • Appreciation trophy – Daleen van Zyl.
  • Chairman’s trophy – Mashishi family.

The athletics club would like to thank all the members who faithfully held the club’s name high and participated in club races, other races, the Comrades Marathon and cross-country competitions.

The club’s new management includes Khomotso Mashishi as chairperson, Daleen van Zyl as treasurer and events coordinator, Mogobe Mashishi as club captain, Fozia Issufo as walker representative, and additional members Tienie van Wyngaardt, Elizna van der Merwe and Viola Mashigo.
