POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Tennis Courts have become the centre of junior tennis in Africa this week, as teams from eight countries battle it out in the u/16 African Junior Team Championships (AJTC).

The tournament serves as Africa’s qualifying event for the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Billie Jean King Cup and kicked off on July 21.

There are six boys’ teams from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, and Morocco and eight girls‘ teams from South Africa, Togo, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Kenya, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt.

The current competition will run until July 25, with the individual event starting from July 27 to July 30.

Results for day 1 (July 21):

Boys singles:

• South Africa beat Algeria: 3-0. (Jamie Roux vs Mohamed Nail Abed and Daniel Brink vs Nacer Ghouli).
• Morocco beat Kenya: 3-0. (Samy Iraqi vs Aum Chandarana and Reda El Aouni vs Jeff Okuku Hesbon).
• Egypt beat Zimbabwe: 3-0. (Younis Mohamed Hussien Moawad vs Noah Junior Samushonga and Youssef Mourid vs Divine Takura Kaliofasi).

Boys doubles:

• South Africa beat Algeria: Jamie Roux/Veer Trikamjee vs Aymen Alaa-Eddine Belhachemi/Nacer Chouli.
• Morocco beat Kenya: Reda El Aouni/Mehdi Laabi vs Aum Chandarana/Jeff Okuku Hesbron.
• Egypt beat Zimbabwe: Raoul Karim Bazerghi/Youssef Mourid vs Anotipa Chigudu/Divine Takura Kaliofasi.

Girls singles:

• Morocco beat Algeria: 3-0 (Lara Faraj vs Meriem Abada and Yasmine Douyeb vs Kawter Abidat).
• Tunisia beat Egypt: 3-0. (Karma Baher vs Sarah Boussaffir and Selima Bendhia vs Kenzy Ahmad Abdalaziz).
• South Africa beat Togo: 3-0 (Morakane Molaoa vs Elodie Rojecca Akpadja and Lyndsey Philipps vs Kokoegan Jennifer Muriel Aziadapou).

Girls doubles:
