POLOKWANE – Local 18-year-old cricketer Respect Mabasa has returned home after proudly representing Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) on an international tour to Pakistan, describing the experience as both challenging and rewarding.

Speaking to Review Online after arriving back in South Africa on Monday, Mabasa said the opportunity came as a surprise.

“I never thought I would be the one chosen to represent my club and my country. When I got the news, I was shocked but also incredibly grateful,” she said.

Mabasa said the tour demanded discipline and commitment, with the team training every day except Sundays.

“It wasn’t an easy journey. I trained hard every day, and that taught me the importance of discipline, consistency and believing in yourself.”

Despite the demanding schedule, she said the experience helped her grow both as a player and as a person. Competing against international players gave her valuable exposure and boosted her confidence.

A message to young dreamers

Mabasa thanked everyone who supported her throughout her journey, saying the opportunity is one she will always cherish.

She also encouraged young people who dream of playing cricket professionally.

“Never give up, no matter what challenges you face. Keep working hard, believe in yourself and your time will come.”

Club celebrates international recognition

Katlego Sempe, the acting cricket services manager and acting CEO of LIC, congratulated Mabasa on her achievement, saying her success reflects hard work being done by the union.

“We appreciate all our coaches for their dedication in developing young talent. Respect’s selection is a proud moment for Limpopo Impala Cricket,” he said.

Sempe added that Mabasa is the fourth player from LIC to receive international recognition, highlighting the club’s continued commitment to developing cricketers capable of competing on the global stage.
