Legendary festival a major success

PREMIER Stanley Mathabatha hailed the Mapungubwe Arts Festival as well executed and urged Limpopo residents to offer constructive criticism so that government could improve next year's festival.

PREMIER Stanley Mathabatha hailed the Mapungubwe Arts Festival as well executed and urged Limpopo residents to offer constructive criticism so that government could improve next year’s festival.

Closing the festival on Sunday evening, Mathabatha said his administration was still “the new kid on the block” and needed guidance.

“The festival was a success because of the support of the people,” he said.

The MEC for sport, arts and culture, Merriam Ramadwa, said the Mapungubwe Arts Festival represented the rainbow nation as it embraced all the cultures. “The week-long festival kicked off with a street parade and carnival, showcasing the diverse cultures of Limpopo,” she said.

One of the musicians who performed at the jazz festival, Kurt Darren, said he was honored to see people singing along and dancing to his music.

The jazz festival formed part of the Mapungubwe Arts Festival.

Kanda Bongo Man, a Democratic Republic of Congo musician, who is currently living in Venda, also performed at the jazz festival.

He said he felt at home in Venda and was happy that South Africans had warmed up to his music.

“People like me because I give them what they like. When I perform, I get off stage and dance with them,” he said.
