Ocean Basket Mall of the North brought a touch of class to an otherwise regular Monday evening.

POLOKWANE – Ocean Basket Mall of the North brought a touch of class to an otherwise regular Monday evening.

The restaurant hosted an art exhibition with unique art works from local art teacher, Mernette Swartz, turning Ocean Basket into an art gallery.

The art work on display was also available for purchase and a silent auction gave patrons the opportunity to bid on their favourite art works. One of Swartz’s own paintings was also up for auction and fetched an impressive R1 400 from a benefactor who bid via telephone.

The proceeds of both the auctions will fund art lessons for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Gerhard Franken, Ocean Basket manager and organiser of the event said it was a joy to be surrounded by excellent works of art and people who enjoy the finer things in life. “We especially want to thank the men from the Ensemble Esprit Choir for the entertainment they provided. All our guests said they enjoyed their performance.”

Swartz said it was a wonderful opportunity for her art students to be able to display their work in a public place.

“It is great that people showed so much interest. I really appreciate the effort and want to thank Ocean Basket for this unique opportunity,” she said.
