POLOKWANE – As the sun set over the city last Tuesday, guests of Limpopo Toyota sipped their cocktails, waiting for the unveiling of the eagerly awaited local launch of the bigger, sleeker and technologically more advanced Toyota Corolla.
Local clients mingled with guests from Toyota South Africa’s head office while they waited for the big reveal. The new Corollas sat waiting under black covers.
After a short introduction to the new model, touching on the advances, performance and safety features of this car, the new Corolla was finally unveiled.
Guest eagerly stepped up to the new Corollas on display to take a closer look. Their faces said it all: Toyota managed to stir up another successful Corolla recipe.
What would happen if you truly defied convention? This was the thinking behind the 2014 Corolla. Toyota created a stylish exterior, a premium interior with upgraded features and enough technology to satisfy any network. They took the best of everything South Africans love about driving and perfected it; Corolla has evolved.
Interestingly every minute of every day, two brand-new Corollas drive out of a Toyota factory somewhere in the world. Statistics like these show the popularity of the brand.
An inauspicious start in 1966 saw Toyota kick off annual production of the Corolla in November of that year with approximately 240 000 vehicles produced at its Takaoka Japan factory and exports began immediately. Eleven generations later, with 16 manufacturing sites in the US, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, Pakistan, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam and Venezuela, the Corolla has clocked up more than 40 million sales worldwide, making it the best-selling automotive nameplate in history.
With customers in more than 150 countries, over 1,1 million Corollas find new homes each year. Up to November 2013, over one million Corollas had been produced and about 980 000 sold in South Africa alone.
To book an appointment to view and test drive the all-new Corolla, visit the showroom of Limpopo Toyota at Motorcity, 204 Tagore Street on the N1 highway north.
