POLOKWANE – Meropa Casino and Entertainment World’s conference hall was filled with joyous sounds during the official launch of the Limpopo Wind Band Association (LIWINBA) last Saturday.
The music of the band filled the air, with trumpets sounding in the parking lot and at the entrance to the casino.
Locals who attended the launch were treated to beautiful music by groups including the Virtuoso Brass Ensemble directed by Duke Mashamaite, and the South African Police Service Brass Band directed by Capt Sindisiwe Setumo.
The two groups later combined for joint performances directed by Duke Mashamaite and LIWINBA chairperson, Nathan Titus.
The launch was attended by the city’s municipal manager, Conny Mametja, who pledged R10 000 to LIWINBA, and presented a message from the office of mayor Freddy Greaver.
Titus said they felt very humbled to be there, and to finally launch the band. “The members have worked very hard to be where they are today. We appreciate all the continuous support given to us, and the faith that everyone had in us,” he said.
