Concert raises R12 000 for dance crew’s trip abroad

POLOKWANE – To help the dance group, Chemical Reaction Dance Crew, travel to Las Vegas in August for an international dance competition, Bethel City Impact Church hosted a benefit concert on Friday.

The dance competition in Las Vegas requires each member to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses, which amounts to R26 000 per member.

“The church is gearing up to raise money for the group to travel to Las Vegas. All proceeds of the benefit concert will go towards the trip, as well as any sponsorships or donations that any person or company would like to offer,” said Shané Sinclair, the group’s manager.

Sinclair said R12 000 was raised at the benefit concert and an additional R50 000 was still needed.

Chemical Reaction is made up of five talented young dancers, all hailing from Westenburg.

The group competed against 15 dance groups from across South Africa in the Dance to Las Vegas competition, which was held in Cape Town recently, where they were ended in the top three to qualify to compete in the finals in Las Vegas.

They have already won numerous accolades, including best dance crew at the Dance Star competition held in Bloemfontein last year.

The dancers have been dancing individually and in different groups since 2006, but have been dancing together since March last year.

They practise three hours a day, three times a week.

“We really need the support of the community to send this group to Las Vegas. These young people have a bright future ahead of them and they need all the support they can muster to represent Polokwane and South Africa,” Sinclair said.

Anyone willing to make a donation to Chemical Reaction can contact Sinclair at 079 717 0531.
