A new look for Lim’s old favourite

JUNE 1, 1960 marked the birth of one of Limpopo’s favourite radio stations, Radio Lebowa, now known as Thobela FM.
With a hive of activities lined-up to celebrate the station’s 54th birthday, the one event that will make this year’s celebration extra special, is the launch of the station’s new corporate identity.
The launch of their new corporate identity, which the station has christened the Mošate Experience, will take place over three days from June 5 to 7.
Thobela FM station manager, Moshongwa Matsena, says the launch of the new corporate identity will see the station assuming a new digital presence in broadcasting, while promoting cultural diversity and the heritage of the Northern Sotho language.
She says it will also set the scene for robust news reporting, content that resonates with current and future audiences and the delivery of authentic stories through the use of modern platforms.
“This achievement is important to us as a station. Not only do we reflect on a luminous historical journey, we also look at how radio has changed the lives of our communities throughout the years.
“We are truly proud to have played a significant role in empowering our listeners through riveting content and a variety of programmes that have become Thobela FM’s signature,” says Matsena.
She says the Mošate Experience will kick off with the Mošate Breakfast at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on June 5 with key stakeholders, government representatives, businesses people, non-governmental organisations, civic organisations, as well as traditional leaders.
“The station will hand-over a new house to a destitute family on the same day, thanks to the station’s partnership with Jane Furse Builders Supply.
“The station feels obliged to give back to the community, simultaneously strengthening its affiliation with its listeners,” she says.
The celebrations will end with a music festival at the Polokwane rugby stadium on June 7, which will include performances by Selaelo Selota, Teargas, Chomee, HHP, Solly Moholo and Winnie Mashaba and an appearance by Muvhango actress, Rami Chuene.
“When the celebrations come to an end, Thobela FM would have given away cash prizes to the amount of R80 000 through competitions which have been running since May 19.
Listeners are encouraged to share unforgettable stories, laughs and their birthday messages on air, as well as interact with the station through its online platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.”
