Ready, steady, go at Youth Fun Run
Young runners took to the mall hallways on Friday evening when Savannah Mall hosted the Youth Fun Run.

POLOKWANE – Young runners took to the mall hallways on Friday evening when Savannah Mall hosted the Youth Fun Run.
This fun run was held as a build-up to the Savannah Race that will take place on July 26, and saw 14 teams of 10 athletes each running a route in and around the mall.
The race kicked off at 18:30 after the route and rules were explained to the runners.
It was clear that safety came first, as the organisers took great pains in explaining how the runners could stay safe, and the race was completed without any problems.
The race started at the Banking Mall and took the runners through the mall, over the roof and ended back at the Banking Mall.
The race was run as a relay and team members had to finish the route before handing over to the next team members.
One of the runners, Kgomotso Mothelo, said he enjoyed the run, but found it difficult to stand still in the elevator and on the escalator.
He said he would have preferred to run up some stairs rather than taking the elevator or the escalator.
Jo-Ann Roux, a spectator, said she expected some trouble with children running through a mall, but she was pleasantly surprised.
She said the event was well planned and monitored.
Karen Botha, the marketing manager for Savannah Mall, said she was looking forward to the next race of this kind on July 18.
She said the race would give the older generation the opportunity to try their hand at a mall race.
Botha thanked Savannah Mall as the main sponsor, as well as Nando’s, Wimpy and Mugg & Bean for sponsoring vouchers for the night’s winners.
