POLOKWANE – The Virtuoso Brass Ensemble had Westenburg residents taping their feet during a concert at the Westenburg Reformed Church on Saturday.
The concert’s programme comprised two line-ups, starting with religious music and ending with secular popular music.
Virtuoso Brass Ensemble director, Duke Mashamaite said the ensemble was ecumenical, comprising members from various Christian churches, and the ensemble commanded worship music for all the churches.
The sacred repertoire included songs such as Abide With Me and Ndikhokhele Bawo, while the secular popular music line-up included songs such as Stone Valley Blues, Mama Thembu’s Wedding and Heal the World.
In between the line-ups, pastor Nathan Titus, a first trumpeter regaled the audience with vocal renditions including Barry Manilow’s I Write the Songs and Josh Groban’s You Raise me Up.
Titus thanked guests for attending the concert and the Westenburg Reformed Church council for hosting the event. He called on the community and businesses to support the ensemble’s tour to Germany in August.
