PETRUS Ramarumo Radali has come full circle in media.
Petrus is a Capricorn FM presenter and presents The Capricorn Connection on Saturdays and Sundays between 15:00 and 18:00.
He started at Capricorn FM in 2007, but left in 2009 to go into advertising.
“I have always loved radio. I started at Univen FM in 2004, where volunteered and did a late night show.
“I left the station in 2006 to study at Wits University, where I studied towards a degree in economics and international relations. I also had a campus radio gig, the drive time slot on Voice of Wits,” he says.
Petrus says he worked for Capricorn FM for two years before the advertising bug bit.
“I left Capricorn FM in 2009 to go on an advertising internship at Mediamark. I worked there for 10 months and attended some courses through the Wits Radio Academy,” he says.
Petrus worked as a marketing and sales executive for the online publication, Mio and also started his own firm, 882 People.
“I realised I still had time to do the one thing I’ve always loved, radio presenting, which is how I found my way back to Capricorn FM.”
He says in the many years he has worked for community radio stations, he was never paid.
“If you want to pursue a career in radio, you need to be ready to push and sacrifice. Nothing comes easy,” he advises young people.
He also encourages young people to refrain from substances abuse.
“Life is too short to spend it on regrets. We all make mistakes, that is part of growing up and, most importantly, that is how we learn. Don’t be scared to try new things. Wake up every day and put in the work.”
