New and nifty Polo hits the right notes

POLOKWANE – Volkswagen South Africa recently launched their new Polo Hatch range, and Review took the TSI Highline DSG for a testdrive, courtesy of Volkswagen Polokwane.

The ultra fuel-efficient TSI 1,2 litre engine offers the same power performance associated with a 1,6 litre engine, using direct fuel injection as well as being turbocharged.

The effect is a smaller, lighter engine with even more enhanced performance, yet low fuel consumption. The engine in the TSI Highline DSG delivers 81kW at 5 000 rpm. The torque is even more impressive, delivering 175Nm at 4 000 rpm.

The DSG (direct shift gearbox) entails a smooth-shifting seven speed automatic gearbox, which can also be used manually.

The combination of the short ratio gears and the lively TSI 1,2l engine provides stellar performance in and around the city. On the open road the TSI Highline DSG is also in its element.

This vehicle’s seats are very comfortable and there is ample leg space and head room for front and rear occupants.

Safety is one of the priorities in this range, and its innovative safety features see to it that the driver and his/her passengers are in one of the safest vehicles in its class. This is thanks to the improved impact resistance, crumple zones, standard ESP across the range, rear fog lights, high-level rear brake lights and ISOFIX child seat mountings. There is also an advanced airbag system.

The ABS assisted brakes are further enhanced with electronic brake-force distribution. The tyre pressure monitor, which is standard on the Highline models as well as the CrossPolo version, ensures that your tyres have the optimum air pressure required for safety on the road.

The Highline DSG model features a five-inch colour display screen audio system in the middle console with touchscreen abilities. The audio system has six loudspeakers and slots for a SD card, auxiliary-input, CD-drive and MP3. It also offers Bluetooth and USB.
