POLOKWANE – Preparing food that is both healthy and tasty is often a difficult task for mothers.
Bolivia Lodge’s head chef, Lipson Chuene, shared some tips on how to prepare funky, fun food with Review. “I want to show you that anybody can prepare food that looks nice and is easy to prepare, a lot of people eat with their eyes as well. The eyes attract us to the food,” Chuene said.
Using a simple flapjack recipe, Chuene said he used a lot of different colours to create various appealing combinations.
Chuene shared his recipe for flapjacks:
Ingredients:
500ml flour, two eggs, five tablespoons of sugar, one tablespoon of butter (melted), four teaspoons of baking powder, half a teaspoon of salt and 250ml milk.
Method:
• Beat the eggs and gradually add sugar.
• Add half the milk and melted butter to egg mixture.
• Stir well, and add flour, baking powder and salt to the egg mixture.
• Stir in the remaining milk to form a smooth mixture.
• Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a greased heavy bottom frying pan or a griddle.
• Bake until golden brown on each side and serve with butter, syrup, honey or jam.
