A family’s true passion for all things fashion
WITH both parents in the fashion industry, it is no wonder that Wandy Manyaka chose to follow in their footsteps and start his own clothing line.
WITH both parents in the fashion industry, it is no wonder that Wandy Manyaka chose to follow in their footsteps and start his own clothing line.
Today, Seshego residents know they can rely on Manyaka Creations for top quality traditional clothing.
“I grew up watching my parents design outfits for men and women and making alterations, and this fuelled my interest in fashion design. When I finished school, I registered to study for electrical engineering, but along the way I could see I was in the wrong field as my love for designing clothes grew more and more,” says Manyaka.
He says he used the money he made working part-time to start his business, and today, he has employed six people and dreams of growing the business in the near future.
“Unlike other designers who dream of dressing celebrities, I prefer to design clothes for aspirant artists because I like the idea of styling ‘fashion virgins’ and helping them define their style,” he says.
He says his highlights include dressing local pop star, Neo Seakamela for her album launch and being invited to showcase his designs during a Sun International Heritage Day celebration in 2011.
Manyaka encourages upcoming fashion designers to have business management skills as it is imperative to know how to run a successful business.
“I am also in the process of advancing my knowledge and learning more about business management as I want to run my business professionally.”
