Trevor Noah has been announced as the replacement for Jon Stewart on ‘The Daily Show’.
The 31-year-old comedian – who has made three appearances on the satirical show since December – was stunned when he was asked to take over as host of the topical programme when the current presenter steps down after 16 years at the helm.
Speaking from Dubai about learning of his appointment, the South African told the New York Times newspaper: “You don’t believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”
No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!

And Trevor’s appointment has already been endorsed by his predecessor.
Jon said: “I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.
“I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!”
