LIMPOPO – WHEN you make a banging theme song for a well-known Limpopo bikers club, Sapa Yopa, there is going to be enormous pressure for the video to be much better.

Mokopane rapper Renovator Lepara has just released his new music video for his anthem banger, Sapa Yopa, following months of promoting the song on radio and at events.

The song is all about embracing culture in black communities, singing praises to black identity and about having fun whilst also addressing serious issues, and its video captures the importance of brotherhood and the pure love black communities. The video was shot in Mahwelereng, Mogalakwena Beach Pub in Moshate, Mokopane and the Polokwane show grounds during the Sapa Yopa bikers rally celebrations.

But Lepara says the concept was something his team, working with renowned South African music video producer, Nicky Campos, decided on. “The video is directed by me and Nicky and once it hits the TV screens I will get all the exposure that I always needed. We never had a concept, we just decided on the spot on what to do and we all shared ideas and it worked.”

The video manages to showcase the local areas and what the people usually get up about their daily business and doesn’t have naked women or models as many would have expected given the typical bikers lifestyles. Lepara opted to include mostly his friends in the video and says that was a carefully considered decision.

“The song, Sapa Yopa, is actually a freestyle I did sometime in 2012 and bikers who were there liked it and we modified it and turned it into a hit. All the people in the video are people that I work with, friends and ordinary people who know me, but have contributed a lot in my music career. I only roll with guys who were there during my struggle.”

Lepara has just released his debut album titled Kgomo Ya Mokopane, and has collaborated with legendary South African hip hop artist, HHP, amongst others. His new album has now bagged him a nomination in the Best Hip Hop/ RnB artist category at the Film, Arts, Music and Entertainment Awards taking place soon in Limpopo.
