LIMPOPO – THE Seshego gospel choir was named the best clap and tap choir at the Grahamstown national arts festival in the Eastern Cape recently.
Maria Bongwe, choir manager, said their participation in the festival was seen as a crucial tool to build the choir for upcoming national and overseas competitions.
She said though the competition was tough at the festival, they knew that with the hard work they put in, they deserved the best.
“We are proud of our performance. Being selected as the best clap and tap choir was never a surprise because we knew very well that we could make it.
“This is the beginning of our way forward and with the support we receive from our supporters and the province, we promise to do better in future.
“We are going to continue working with the same team spirit in preparing the choir for upcoming competitions. Our choir has been selected to perform in Scotland in September, pity we cannot afford to go overseas because the majority of the choir are learners,” said Bongwe.
Chief of staff in the office of the premier, Mogale Nchabeleng, welcomed the choir on their arrival from the Eastern Cape, and encouraged them to continue to work hard as they represented the province well.
“It is with pleasure to see the choir return with good results. This is indeed great work done. We encourage them to proceed with the same spirit and make us proud and present us well in national competitions,” said Nchabeleng.
