LIMPOPO – South Africa is a treasure trove when it comes to heritage sites and natural wonders and beauty.
That is what Tourism Minister, Derek Hanekom conveyed at the National Tourism Month launch at the Euphoria Golf Resort and Hydro in Mookgophong recently.
September is Tourism Month in South Africa and the department kick-started the month a bit earlier to raise public awareness of this fact. “During Tourism Month, we focus our efforts on domestic tourism in particular, using the period as an opportunity to encourage all South Africans to get out and explore this unique, beautiful and diverse country of ours.
This year the Tourism Month launch uses a new domestic tourism marketing campaign which we hope will attract tourists throughout the month. The new domestic campaign, informed by consumer insights research conducted by South African tourism, encourages South Africans to take a leisure break away from home and start travelling their own country. The campaign premise is about the joy of discovering new experiences for the first time, highlighting that South Africa has a myriad tourist experiences to be discovered, whether one is a new or a seasoned traveller,” Hanekom explained.
Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism MEC, Seaparo Sekoati, emphasised that as Tourism Month will be spent in Limpopo this year, tourists will enjoy the nature of the province. “Limpopo has a lot of iconic areas like the Kruger National Park, Mapungubwe, and Magoebaskloof. In the Sekhukhune region you can find iconic sites like the echo caves,” said Sekoati.
“Creating much needed job opportunities and addressing the social ills facing our province and South Africa, the tourists will be welcomed now that Limpopo has finally claimed its rightful position in terms of domestic trips taken in the country.
“Infrastructure such as roads are fixed, this ensures that dusty roads won’t spoil the month’s activities,” concluded Sekoati.
