Mahlatse’s solo career on the rise

Mahlatse "Vocal" Matjie has gone solo and his single, Follow, is enjoying airplay on several radio stations and in clubs

POLOKWANE – Mahlatse “Vocal” Matjie of Muzo Brothers has gone solo and his single, Follow, is enjoying airplay on several radio stations and in clubs.

Mahlatse says he has grown as a musician and is ready to compete with the big names in the music industry.

“My love for music was inspired by my late father,” he says.

“My versatility and strong vocal capability began to grow at the age of 13 years and since then I have never looked back. My career started developing with local performances at church, and at community functions where I began to explore my talent by entering numerous competitions. My love for performing and an increasing demand from the public has inspired me to pursue music as a career,” Matjie said.

He said he is a musician for all seasons and uses his guitar to enhance his overall performance.

“My journey towards music prominence was convoluted. I acted in a musical play in 2002 called Livit Up as a lead character. I ventured out onto national TV as a contestant in the 2004 instalment of Coca Cola Pop Stars, which was my biggest breakthrough; I reached the top 20 males stage, and eventually I became the guy with the guitar performing at university and college events,” he said.
