Young bookworm pens her own best-seller
A book is one of those things that can transport you into another world from the first chapter
POLOKWANE – Reading is important for both adults and children as it not only improves one’s understanding but also boosts one’s imagination and creativity.
Bianka Hewitt (14), apart from being a friendly and kind young girl, has always been a bookworm.
Having read many different books and been introduced to so many characters, she was motivated to start writing her own book.
Bianka’s mother, Jackie, describes Bianka as a motivated and open-minded young girl with a bright future.
She began writing her book A Bond is Special in September 2014 and recently finished the book which is over 400 pages long.
The book is a fantasy and centres around Unicorns and their riders, as Bianka is a big fan of horses. The main character is named after Bianka herself, the main Unicorn’s name is Diamond and the plot involves the different adventures the two go on.
“The book is to show that mercy is better than revenge,” says Bianka
Bianka and her mother have been trying since October last year to get publishers to publish Bianka’s book. They have finally received feedback from a publishing company who have offered her a 50/50 cost/profit offer, meaning the family has to give half of the money to make the deal happen. However, they do not have the funds. Publication of Bianka’s book hinges on whether she can find sponsors to help her carry her share of the cost.
She has already planned her next three books and has started writing the sequel to this book. Anyone who wishes to assist her can contact Jackie at 072 677 0204 or e-mail jdchewitt@gmail.com.
