Former municipal manager not to be charged

The allegation that the Polokwane Municipality was in the process of pressing criminal charges against the former municipal manager, Connie Mametja, and the suspended municipal chief financial officer, (CFO) Fikile Mudau, is not true

POLOKWANE –  A report from the Municipal Public Accounts Committee and its recommendations on the matter was brought before council during a council meeting last Friday.

Municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, said the committee’s report stated the investigation confirmed the municipality acted proactively to the request of the national Department of Treasury to investigate and deal with irregular expenditure.

“Their finding was that the irregular expenditure was spent appropriately, but the processes and systems were not followed properly, and as such, there is no need to pursue criminal charges.

“The report has a number of recommendations, which should not be read in isolation from each another,” Mothapo said.

Council also agreed there was no need to pursue criminal charges as Mametja already resigned.

Mudau is already facing disciplinary action for possible misconduct.
