POLOKWANE – Maleka is the owner of Myface Beauty and Stylist mobile beauty salon, which offers services such as make-up lessons, skincare and personal make-up services.

Maleka says she has always loved make-up and used to experiment on her friends and siblings while growing up. Her big break as a make-up artist came when she found a job as a skin consultant at one of the retail stores in Polokwane.

“That helped me get exposure and I saw a niche in the market and decided to start my own business specialising in beauty products and make-up services.”

Asked what the most essential tools in every make-up kit are, she says lipstick, powder and mascara.

“You can never go wrong with those,” she says.

She advises women to use quality products, which are usually more expensive, as they last longer and give better results.

She also gives tips on how to make the perfect eyebrow, one of the biggest fashion trends at the moment.

“You have to fill in the brows, draw a shape close to that of your own brows with an eyebrow pencil and make light strokes in the direction that your hair grows. To help fill out your look, use a brow brush to gently comb your brows into shape so that no hair is poking up in the wrong direction.”

When it comes to choosing the colour of the lipstick, you  have to take your skin tone into consideration, she says.

She says certain colours can only match some skin types. “If you are light skinned, do not be afraid of bold colours such as a red because it complements your skin beautifully,” she explains.
