This and that with Thando “Thabooty” Thabethe
Soapie fans might know her as Nolwazi from the local soapie, Generations The Legacy, while radio fans might know her as "Thando Thabooty"
Thando Thabethe, also known as Nolwazi in Generations The Legacy is among the 5FM group expected to rock Polokwane this weekend.
POLOKWANE – 5FM presenter, Thando Thabethe will travel to Polokwane this weekend as part of the station’s Small Town Live Loud.
She shares more about herself with Review Bonus.
Who is Thando Thabethe?
Born and bred in Johannesburg, Thando Thabethe is a radio DJ presenter, entrepreneur and actress.
How did you end up in radio? Is it something you have always wanted to do?
Not actually, when I got to the University of Johannesburg (UJ), I auditioned for UJFM. I got in initially as a newsreader, and then as a presenter.
Tell us about your Generations character and how she compares to your real life personality.
I play Nolwazi, she is a driven young woman who is entering the corporate world. She has a moral high ground, but be careful not to step on her toes because she will show you who is the boss. Despite her hard exterior, she is a softie at heart. I am different to her because I believe I don’t have a bitchy side, but I can relate to her ambition.
Surely Generations is bigger than any radio show. How does your Generations role sync into your radio show? Should we expect your radio gig to be scripted into Generations?
Haha! Probably not, that would be an awesome idea though, as both mediums hold very strong grounds on their own. They don’t sync into each other at all; one allows me to be myself, the other insists I be someone else.
How did the nickname Thabooty come about? Would one be wrong to say its your surname mixed up with your booty? No offence intended.
Not at all, we got it from a caller who thought it was catchy.
Justin is an anchor in his own right. What is it like working with him, and how do you guys relate generally?
Justin has a huge amount of radio experience and prior to this, I never got to work with him, so we were kinda thrown into the deep end. Thankfully he is an amazing guy with a great sense of humour, we get along really well.
What do you do other than the 5FM show and Generations?
I’m a voice over artist, DJ and I run my own company.
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
I really want to get into films, that will be my focus for the next couple of years.
What would be a deal breaker for you when dealing with people?
Personally: cheating and professionally: unprofessionalism and laziness.
