Keeping up with the times

Motorbike riding and communication between riders, especially when travelling in groups, are keeping up with the times

POLOKWANE – This is according to Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club president, Sarel Nong.

He said during their recent rally, the club members experienced a problem with regard to communicating with each other as some of the riders who joined the rally for the first time did not know the area.

“This meant we had to frequently stop and meet up at points to discuss the route and this caused several delays. We can now avoid these kinds of delays with the Scala Rider Q3,” Nong explained.

He encouraged all Sapa Yopa members to make use of the Scala Rider Q3, a basic Bluetooth communication device and earpiece. He said the Q3 is ideal for bikers travelling in smaller groups. He explained that with the four-way toggling communication at a range of 1km using Bluetooth, the device, which is fixed to a helmet, makes communication and the sharing of music between riders a lot easier.

He said since he started using the Q3, he has been able to answer calls and make use of the navigation system on his phone while riding.

The device is rechargeable and lasts for up to eight hours of talk time.

“When training new riders, we make safety our priority. Proper communication between riders is one of the ways we help to ensure they keep their attention on the road while still being able to communicate with the other riders with ease,” Nong explained.

He said in his years of riding, he has seen bikers getting into terrible accidents and near accidents when they try to send messages to each other or by talking on their phones.

“Riding with one hand does not make you cool, in fact, it makes you a danger to yourself and other road users. Rather make use of this kind of technology and be safe,” Nong concluded.
