Look modern and stylish in a well-fitted suit
Designer and personal stylist, Jerry Pitja, talks about the latest trend for modern men, a well-fitted suit
POLOKWANE – The owner of Da-Elegancy Men’s Boutique in Seshego, Pitja says the first thing to consider when buying a suit is to make sure the suit fits properly.
Another important aspect he says to take into consideration when buying a suit is the type of occasion you are going to wear the suit to. He elaborates by explaining that the modern suit includes the fashion and formal suit.
“The fashion suit has more details such as pinstripes, culture patterns, polka dots, or it can be scotch. It is usually worn to occasions such as parties and other less formal events. It is more attractive and looks more appealing on younger men. The fashion suit is the more popular choice as it is usually more comfortable,” he explains.
“Formal suits are usually made in plain colours. It is restricted and does attract as much attention because it does not have patterns and such. It is worn for occasions such as meetings, dinner or everyday office life. It is usually better suited to older men. This type of suit can be switched easily to suit different occasions as it is timeless fashion.”
He says colour is another important aspect of choosing a suit, especially if you plan to wear the suit to more than one occasion.
“Bottle green is powerful, it conveys confidence. Grey is timeless, simple and straight forward and it gives you options in terms of accessories and shirt or tie colours. Some of the more timeless colours include navy blue formal suits, the double breasted black suit, and the pinstripe. These suits represents class, elegance and a sense of focus to anyone who wears it, regardless of age.”
Jerry’s tips on how to choose the right fit:
• The pants should not close the shoe, it must leave space to reveal the ankle which will give you a chance to show off accessories such as ‘happy socks’.
• The structure of the jacket on the shoulders should be a perfect fit, not too loose or too tight.
• The sleeves should be 9 cm between the wrist and the thumb.
• The overall size of the jacket should be below the buttocks.
