Mining committee stands united
A new Mining Community Forum committee from six clusters in Mogalakwena was elected on Saturday after a consultative meeting on 2 June with regards to the Grass Valley chrome mine about 15 km's outside of Mokopane.
LIMPOPO -The decision was made that a community forum committee should be elected to liaison the interest and impact of the affected community with Grass Valley.
The newly elected committee members are Selby Khalo (Chairperson), Happy Moalela (Deputy Secretary), Sello Kekana (Deputy Chairperson), Tshepo Madiba (Treasurer), Sonia Monama, and Elias Moremi as additional members.
Khalo said: “Mokopane is rich in terms of mineral resources and it is important that communities should unite so they will be able to negotiate the social labour plan among other issues.
“If we do not unite, the mining companies will breach their contracts. We are planning to engage with all affected and impacted people in the community. We need this investment in our town.”
