Festival build-up activities for Lim
Mapungubwe Arts, Culture and Heritage Festival in December this year, Limpopo will embark on a district-based list of activities from 15 September to 8 November.
POLOKWANE – Limpopo Government Spokesperson, Phuti Seloba, said the activities planned by local government will coincide with the celebration of Heritage Month and Tourism Month.
“The district build-up gives the Limpopo communities an opportunity to get ready for the coming festival and learn more about what the festival is about,” he said.
He added that the upcoming activities will include cultural competitions, fashion shows, arts and craft exhibitions, and an I Can Sing competition along with several poetry and storytelling competitions.
He said finalists from the I Can Sing competition will have the opportunity to record an album and showcase during the main festival.
The build-up events will also be used to ensure an artist register is created on the “central database”.
“Registration will centralise supplier’s data to simplify government procurement processes. It also aims to reduce costs to both government as well as government suppliers.”
Mopani will be the first district to host the build-up events from 15 to 17 September at the Nkowankowa stadium followed by Vhembe district from 22 to 24 September at the Thoyandou Sports, Arts and Culture Precinct Indoor Centre. This will be followed by Sehukhune district from 29 September to 1 October and Waterberg district from 30 September to 2 October at the Peter Nchabeleng Hall and Modimolle Hall respectively. The build-up events will come to a close in the Capricorn district from 6 to 8 October (venues to be announced).
“The Mapungubwe Arts, Culture and Heritage Festival contributes positively to the improvement and economic growth of the province through tourism and it affords people the opportunity to deliberate on their culture and heritage,” Sebola concluded.
