Media mogul Euphonik – more than just a DJ
DJ Euphonik says he has been working on a number of collaborations with African artists which will be released in 2017
POLOKWANE – Internationally acclaimed DJ Euphonik, real name Themba Nkosi, spent some time in the city recently and we caught up with him to find out more about his career and other projects in the pipeline.
Euphonik has released 13 successful albums so far and promises to keep the party hits coming. His latest hit single Don’t Want To Be Your Friend, featuring Micasa is a slight departure from his usual sound but has been well received by his fans. Other hits such as Runaway Love with Donald and Ziright iGirls are currently blowing up the airwaves, right in time for the festive season.
He says he would do anything relating to music because of the way it brings people together. Euphonik, who is currently the host of euNITE on 94.7 FM between 18:00 and 20:00 on Sundays, says moving from the station he started his radio career with, 5FM, was a good career move. “This year would have marked 10 years with the station but I had to leave in order to explore other avenues.”
He is also a music producer but says he has been expanding his entrepreneurial side. “I invest in property, consultations for media companies and artists and I own a clothing store with DJ Kent.” The store, called Debut was inspired by the relationship between music and entertainment.
The Mpumalanga-born artist has toured the continent before but wanted to do something different with his current tour. “I wanted to meet the artists and understand their music and collaborate. I have been working on a few collaborations since the tour and new music will be coming out next year.”
He further tells us about the Oh Ship Party Cruise which he hosts with DJ Fresh. He says it’s a party concept which brings people together in a cruise and offers entertainment in a different way. It will depart from Durban to the Portugese Islands from 2 to 5 December.
