Tekza is hip, hop and happening
This 17-year-old's single reached over 10 000 downloads and for an up and coming rapper, that is a great achievement
POLOKWANE – Ivy Park’s very own up and coming rapper, Nkateko Tekza SA Shivambu, is slowly carving out his name in the annals of the music industry.
He says his love for hip hop forces him to push the envelope when it comes to his career. The 17-year-old was recognised by South Africa’s biggest hip hop magazine, Hype, as one of the best newcomers. Tekza SA has released a few singles but the one that got him a lot of online buzz and radio playtime is his fourth single, She Wants Me Back.
The Gr 11 learner says the single reached over 10 000 downloads, which is a big achievement for a relatively unknown artist. “It is a song about heartbreak, it shows how people feel when they’re depressed or feel hurt. I started doing music when I was in primary school. At the time it was just for fun, but I started getting serious about music when I started high school.
I started learning how to write bars, it took me a while to find myself,” he said. His career in music started growing this year as he reached a dozen of his goals.
“I’m still very new to the music industry and will soon be in the big leagues. My goal is to make it in the industry and also get my BCom degree,” he says.
“When I rap, I rap about everything I see. I work hard towards my goals, and pray every day for success. I always tell people to follow their dreams and not to care what their enemies say,” he explains.
“I will never stop hustling,” he concludes.
