Go bold with bright red

Add some bling or wear rich red tones to spice up your Christmas Day outfit

POLOKWANE – Christmas is not only the season for spending time with family and loved ones, delicious food and presents, it is also a time for fashion.

Rich, warm colours, summer dresses and high-end fashion are what you would usually find on Christmas Day as you dress up for that delicious lunch.

Review spoke to local fashion designer, Nico Willoughby-Smith, who gave his expert fashion advice for a very merry Limpopo Christmas.

Nico says Christmas is the time of year evoked by mutual excitement, no matter where you go, and said your fashion ideas shouldn’t be any different.

“Whatever your culture, whatever your tradition, Christmas has always been a time to celebrate with family and friends,” says Nico.

He adds Christmas is always a busy day, so whether you’re staying at home with family or going out with friends, choosing what to wear should be fun. “Steal some quality ‘you time’ when getting ready that morning,” he advises.

Nico says the best thing to do is to choose that one stand-out outfit to celebrate the occasion on Christmas. “Don’t be afraid to embrace bold red, it is the colour of the season after all,” he explains.

“Try to incorporate some glitz and glamour. If you’re enjoying the festivities at home with the family, pair a nice bling blouse with your favourite pair of jeans. Should you find yourself joining friends then why not go all out? Bling up the blouse and accessories,” Nico adds.
As a haute couturier, Nico says he is inspired by the season, having designed a range of gowns drawing inspiration from rich red colours and tones.
