Considering the loss of arguably the most flamboyant musicians, to one of the cinematic world's most beloved characters, Severus Snape, 2016 was indeed a sad year in the entertainment world.

The past year was quite a tumultuous one. While many will look back on 2016 with fond memories, there are those who will remember it as a year the world lost some of its most influential people. Here is a list of 10 stars who took their final bow in 2016:

  • Anton Yelchin -Profession: Actor.

Yelchin was a famous up-and-coming actor known for his roles in films such as Star Trek, Terminator and many more. The promising actor passed away at the age of 27 in a freak car accident.

  • Muhammed Ali – Profession: Boxer

Ali was a man who needed no introduction, the famous boxer is often regarded as the best boxer to have ever lived. Ali passed away at the age of 74 after a 35-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

  • Prince -Profession: Musician

The pop megastar, who produced all-time great hits such as Purple Rain, passed away at the age of 57 after an accidental overdose on fentanyl.

  • Alan Rickman -Profession: Actor

Alan was best known for his portrayal as Severus Snape in the world-renowned  Harry Potter films. The actor passed away at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer.

  • David Bowie -Profession: Musician

The famous rock superstar got people dancing with songs such as Space Oddity and Let’s Dance passed away at the age of 69. He too passed after a long battle with cancer.

Wilder was best known for playing Willy Wonka in die 1971 movie, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. The actor passed away at the age of 83 after complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Kenny Baker -Profession: Actor

This Star Wars actor best known for playing R2-D2 died at the age of 81 following a brief additional illness.

Hill was best known for his roles in Law and Order and Mission Impossible. The actor died at the age of 94, the cause of his death is not known.

Palmer was generally regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history. Palmer passed away while awaiting heart surgery at the age of 87.

• Doris Roberts – Profession: Actress

Roberts was best known for playing Marie Barone in the television sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond. The actress died at the age of 90 in her sleep due to a stroke.
