New Nissan Navara ‘a true African bakkie’
The all-new Nissan Navara, the 2016 International Pick-Up of the Year, has landed on local shores and is set to redefine the market for pick-ups on the continent.
POLOKWANE – The Nissan Navara 2.3 DDT 4×4 LE Double Cab seven-speed automatic with the stunning Burnt Orange paint coat, courtesy from BB Nissan Polokwane, is the test vehicle in the new Navara model line-up for the BONUS New Vehicle of the Week feature.
This Navara is also fitted with black leather seats with heater function that is optional on the LE grade models for R13 000 (incl VAT).

Joining BONUS at BB Nissan Polokwane is Phathutshedzo, or better known as Champ, Dongola. He is a prominent businessman who started his own landscaping business, Champions Landscaping, in 2012, and is also a keen boxing promoter in Limpopo.
BB Polokwane’s New Vehicle Sales Executive, David Crouwkamp, joined Dongola and BONUS for the trip in and around Polokwane.
Powering the new Navara is a brand new, twin-turbo diesel engine. This diesel unit produces 140kW at 3 750rpm and 450Nm, which peaks between 1 500rpm and 2 500rpm. The fuel consumption is rated at 6,5 litres per 100 km, allowing for a range of over 1 000 km on a full 80 litre fuel tank.
“The design of the new Navara makes this a true African bakkie. This is an ideal vehicle for traditional leaders. The interior is impressive with loads of space to comfortably carry its passengers in style. For me the new Navara is fit for a king,” Dongola praised the new premium class style of the cabin.
The double cab models launched in South Africa will all feature the new coil spring rear suspension.
“This suspension design of the new Navara surely provides for a very comfortable ride,” says Dongola, as he drove over a wet, muddy and corrugated dirt road on Friday morning.
The mechanical transfer case, which selects four-wheel drive and low-range, is operated by a turn-knob inside the cabin and can be switched between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive (High) at up to 100 km/h. While Dongola is driving on the wet and muddy road, Crouwkamp switched to four-wheel-drive and immediately Dongola felt the difference.
“The interior of the new Navara’s cabin has everything a luxury vehicle can offer, and the dashboard, multi-function steering wheel along with its on-board navigation system, gives it a luxurious feel and the infotainment with its colour display is also very impressive too,” Dongola complimented.
