As part of its third birthday celebrations the University of Limpopo’s (UL) school of medicine recognised and rewarded academic excellence among students and staff during an awards ceremony held in Polokwane last Thursday.
The event highlighted the achievements of both first and second level students for the 2017 academic year as well as rewarded the teaching staff for their positive impact on the three-year-old programme.
The School of Health Sciences was launched in 2016, complementing the existing School of Medical Sciences.
Through the medical school, the UL aims to train quality doctors who will serve their respective communities with dedication consistent with the country’s National Development Plan.
Third level medical student, Jaco Coetzer, who aspires to ply his medicinal trade as anaesthesiologist took the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for second year students. He received a trophy, certificate together with a R5 000 voucher.
Fellow student and aspiring cardiologist, Georgia Ramakgwakgwa, scooped the Outstanding Academic Achievement award from the first level students. She walked away with a trophy, certificate and Van Schaik study voucher worth R5 000.
Pheto Mangena, consultant in General Medicine and Nephrology received the 2017 Outstanding Academic Lecturer Award.
Mahlo Mokgalong, Vice-Chancellor and Principal at UL, congratulated the recipients and encouraged them to study further as the profession requires skilled professionals.
