This week, we got to know more about the Ashifa Breakfast Team Ashifashabba, Mpho Maumela and Bothwell BK Matewe

• Hi guys. Why haven’t I heard you play any wedding songs on the show? Makwena, ka Motinti.
“Ha ha ha. I am sure you may have missed the shows we played the songs on. We have played the songs and we still do.”
• I have always wondered about Mpho Maumela’s voice. Is it her voice or is it modified? Suku, Flora Park.
“Thanks for the compliment. Yes that is my natural voice, Suku.”
• Who is always out of line and is hard to put in line? EmJay, Johannesburg.
“Tough one EmJay, but to keep it short, every dog has its day. As a team we try and keep each other in line though Mpho needs to be kept on a tight leash and Shabba loses it when Orlando Pirates win.”
• I call you guys the terrible triplets on the breakfast show. What special recipe are you guys using to become the most best energetic breakfast trio across the continent? Justice Ngoepe, Moletjie Motinti.
“It all boils down to teamwork and understanding each one’s role on the show. Thank you for the kind words.”
• Do you sometimes spend a day together when you are not at work? BK on the show you are the most funniest person one will not believe this when meeting you. Thabo, Nobody.
“Yes we do spend time together quite often if our private schedules don’t clash. The understanding is always doing every show as though it’s our first and never taking listeners for granted. That helps us have a great show.”
• Mpho you have a very special skill to manage people especially Shabba, and BK very well. Keep it up. How do you feel driving the desk when Shabba is not around? Maureen, Nobody.
“Thank you, Maureen. It’s never easy to handle these two oldies but I try my best. As a team we ought to be able to cover for each other in the absence of another.”
• Hi guys. Who is the best dancer on the team? Mpho, Bendor.
“It is definitely Mpho. Shabba thinks he can dance and we always remind him to stick to jokes. We have never seen BK dance so it’s difficult to say.”
• Hello team, does your relationship end after 09:00 or do you sometimes hang out after the show? Alphine Mojapelo, Nobody.
“We are a team on and off air. We do hang out together like going to watch movies, going for a braai or travelling to an event where one of us is MCing an event if we are not booked to perform as a team. Away from that we keep very busy on Whatsapp.”
• Hello breakfast team. Firstly I would like to thank you for helping, informing and mostly entertaining the community. How do you manage to always crack jokes and make fun of each other every morning? Mama Daphney Pheme, Seshego Zone 4.
“Thank you Mama. We have been a team for more than 10 years and that has helped us to appreciate and understand each other better. So it’s easy to crack a joke without offending the next person.”
• When travelling together, who is the driver? Tshepo, Ivy Park.
“We trust Mpho to do that. Shabba is normally on his phone or laptop and BK is either asleep or reading a book.”
