Dafro sets his sights on the world’s stage

Looking up to local house DJ's and music producers such as DJ Black Coffee and Da Capo, Prince Maake otherwise known Dafro, says that he sees his sound and music trending worldwide one day.

POLOKWANE – “I got my stage name a long time ago from a friend of mine from Mokopane. Music has always been a part of me from a young age and I have always loved and enjoyed house music, in particular. My style is not easily categorized because I just insert and infuse whatever sound pattern from any genre to suit the song that I work on.

My music production went to another level after one of my friends gave me lessons on how Fruity Loops (a program to make music) functions back in 2007. I then began to research about music production and it took  a whole lot of reading and practicing as well as articles by professionals in the industry to be where I am now. My music in general has a choral feel to it, which I believe, sets it apart, “ he explained.

Dafro began to DJ at the age of seven when his father told him that he has potential and taught him tricks of the trade.

“He often tells me of  how easy it was for me to grasp and that gave him confidence that I was born for this profession. The best moment I’ve experienced so far is playing on the VUZU Hit Refresh music show in Durban in 2016,” he explains.

He added that his music stands out because of his fusion of electronic sound with deep house routines.

Dafro went on to encourage upcoming DJ’s and producers to research the industry and gain an understanding before entering it.

“As a music professional it is important to know the potential of every genre and target audience because it is not all about the money,” he concluded.
