Beats help reveal artist’s creativity
Rapper and BA in performing arts student at the University of Limpopo, Matome Ramotlholo from Ga-Sekgopo, says beats connect with him as whenever he hears a beat, he will quickly come up with a concept to work with.
LIMPOPO – According to the 20-year-old, every beat you hear as an artist is supposed to bring out a certain feeling in you.
“The feeling beats give you might be emotional, sad or happy, but whatever the emotion, a beat is supposed to be good for storytelling,” he said.
Matome, better known as Gil by his fans, is a rapper who expresses himself through music. He discovered his passion for music in 2008 when he was still in primary school.
“My neighbour used to lend me his hip hop DVDs and I fell in love with hip hop music. When I got to high school I decided to start writing my own songs,” he explained.
He has a single titled Find my Way featuring Elo Blues and explained this single is more a type of gospel hip hop.

The song is about his life where he talks to God about the people around him.
“I ask God to keep me and my loved ones safe and I also ask Him not to take me from this earth before I accomplish my mission in this world. I believe everyone has a purpose and I am still trying to find my way.”
