Mahorns – working together towards a better future for artists

When a group of friends within the arts fraternity came together to offer each other support as they chase their dreams, Mahorns was established.

POLOKWANE – The group consists of seven artists, giving moral support to each other as they navigate the art industry. These artists include Mishack Roogie Zilliot Morudi (a rapper, singer, poet and motivational speaker); Thabang ‘TF’ Lehonya, Maleka ‘Rodriguez’ Monyela and Koketso ‘ Killa Ovadose’ Mpya (all three rappers) and Eunice ‘Chegow’ Jile who is a a poet, a presenter and a motivational speaker.

Gift Manaka, the founding member of Mahorns, says the group has been together since a 2017 and was inspired by Cassper Nyovest’s family tree. ” I use my pocket money to fund the group because I saw the need for unity of artists from Mmotong so that we stand a better chance of succeeding as a unit, rather than individuals. The money is also raised by selling Mahorns tshirts which go for R150 each and the money goes towards paying for the everyday logistics of an artist organisation” said Manaka.

He explains that the crew is slowly establishing themselves and and with every performance are becoming more recognisable to their audience. He hopes that the future will bring more artists together to work towards a common goal.
