Phat beats from DJ FatsLaMuntu
The radio personality at a community radio station in Mankweng, dancer, master of ceremonies and musician, Martin Mosehle from Toronto Mankweng, chose to be called FatsLaMuntu because of his weight.
LIMPOPO – He explained growing up, people around the community would name you according to your body features or size and for him it was his size.
“I got the name Fats from people at kasi but a friend of mine came up to me and said: ‘you are a good dancer and an entertainer and people love you, so why not call yourself FatsLaBantu?’ which later changed to FatsLaMuntu,” he added.
He fell in love with the entertainment industry at the age of eight, where he took part in plays at school.
He was a drummer and a member of a choir but he always wanted to be on radio and he always pictured himself on radio while listening to legendary radio personalities while growing up.
FatsLaMuntu is a multi-talented artist, with music being one of his passions.
He added he grew up listening to kwaito music and also going out to events and performing some of his all-time favourites.
“As much as I enjoyed going out there and performing other people’s music, I also wanted to make my own.
“At first it was scary and I remember with my first single it took me about six months before I could release it and when I did, it helped me get a lot of exposure and recognition,” he explained.
He added that with his first single titled Tsikilikile he managed to get the attention of local musicians he looked up to such as Lekkersweet, Devine Dance Crew and Blazy Fresh among others.
FatsLaMuntu plans to release another single sometime next year and will feature some of his mentors and, like all his work, it will be amazing.
He said he appreciates all the love he has been getting from his friends and supporters who he defines as family and hopes they will show him the same love with the release of his single next year.
“People who support me know me, they know who I am and they know I never disappoint which is why I don’t call my supporters or friends fans, they are all family to me because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he added.
