And the Reaga winner is…
To inform residents about what things are happening in and around the city, the Polokwane Municipality decided to launch a special competition in conjunction with Energy FM.
POLOKWANE – Projects like the smart meters and pipe replacement all fall under this radio programme, called Reaga (building a smart city together), which aims to keep people informed about the projects done by the municipality.

As part of the launch, Energy FM and the municipality launched a competition where youngsters from around the city could enter poems or a rap which tells people about Reaga, what it stands for and how it fits together for the Smart City campaign 2030.

Friday, 31 August marked the end of the competition and the three finalists, Semakaleng Teffu, Lesedi Mosheltlou and Phuleng Tleane, had to hash things out on air to gain votes from the public to see who would win the biggest prize at the end of the day.
The winner received an undisclosed amount of cash as well as a tablet worth R2 000.
Municipal Spokesperson, Disree Manyane, went live on air to tell listeners about some of the projects the municipality is currently running and explaining how people will benefit from them.

The competition ran for three weeks and gave youths in the city the opportunity to showcase their talents on Energy FM SA 102.1 while telling residents and officials within the municipality what kind of city they would like to see by 2030.
Vodacom is one of the biggest sponsors of the Reaga initiative as ‘in order to build a smart city, the city cannot do it in isolation’. Semakaleng was announced as the winner of the competition with Lesedi and Phuleng hot on her heels in second and third place respectively.
Semakaleng told BONUS she plans to use the money she won to buy something special for her mother and her baby.

“I thank everyone who supported me and who voted for me. You were my strength and helped me through the nerves when I needed it most. I give special thanks to Energy FM for their great informative programmes and the Polokwane Municipality for assisting in making the city better for everyone,” she said.
Lesedi and Phuleng thanked everyone for their votes and said they will continue rapping and writing poems as they want to see art grow in the city, especially among the youth.
