Blow up on the fashion scene with a bubble dress

BONUS spoke to Mateme Morake, a fashion designer and owner of Booba Couture, who went in-depth on this trend.

POLOKWANE – Bubble dresses are one of the most underrated styles of dresses in the fashion world.  Although often misunderstood, bubble dresses are well defined and they can by identified by a voluminous skirt.

The hem of the skirt folds in creating a bubble effect and is usually a short dress, mid-thigh or just above the knee. BONUS spoke to Mateme Morake, a fashion designer and owner of Booba Couture, who went in-depth on this trend.

She explained that bubbles are not limited to dresses: there are bubble skirts, bubble sleeves and even bubble pants. “Bubble outfits are fun to wear but the fit is not for everyone. You need to fit the item and be comfortable with it. If you decide to wear bubble skirts or pants, make sure you wear a simple or less detailed top so that the details don’t clash,” she said.

Mateme Morake, a fashion designer, and owner of Booba Couture shows how to elegantly wear a bubble dress.

She added how bubble dresses are fun to wear, but she explained that it is crucial that the neckline is low so that the person doesn’t look too closed up. It’s important to draw attention only to the bubble detail, not everywhere else.

“Try to wear a heel with your bubble dress, it gives you a great and sexy posture. There are dresses for different occasions. It is not necessarily for events. Yes, you can wear an elegant bubble dress to an elegant event but you can also rock a casual bubble dress to your cocktail evenings or parties, or even just for chilling out with friends. It works well with heels but you can wear it down for a relaxed look,” she said.

She added that bubble dresses can be accessorised with a neckpiece, but accessories must generally be kept to a minimum. Some dresses and shirts are simple cuts with accentuated bubble sleeves. The bubble sleeves bring a very confident and bold look.

“They add that dramatic statement to your look. You can have the sleeves long or short, and you can wear the bubble sleeve shirt with any simple bottom of your choice. Bubble detailed outfits can be fun, classy and professional depending on the occasion. Let’s rock bubble outfits in style,” she concluded.
