Tackling Covid-19 one track at a time

The outbreak of the Coronavirus has prompted the Venda Classic Rumba artist, Muzondwa 'Gear Box' Salani, to release a new debut CD, entitled Coronavirus.

LIMPOPO – Gear Box Salani (52) who was born and raised in the rural village of Muhuyu near Matangari, outside Thohoyandou, said the newly released album is his fourth album.

Salani is a soldier based at 15 SI Battalion in Vuwani and has been deployed to assist in ensuring law and order during the lockdown period. The CD consists of six tracks including U swika havho fhano, Matshonise, Vho Muzondwa, Sathane, Zwi sokou fana (jealous) and the title track, Coronavirus.

He said he wanted to bring the message across that the disease is deadly and that there is no cure. With the track matshonise, he says he wants to warn the loan sharks that, during the lockdown, they have to understand that people are not working and they must be lenient when it comes to repaying the money, he said.

All songs were recorded at Volcano Studio in Mianzwi village.
