Passion and love for radio scores a slot for Rofhiwa Mukwevho
The 23-year-old Univen FM presenter remembers his early beginnings in the entertainment industry
LIMPOPO – His love for radio started as young boy who loved listening to radio and to imitate newsreaders and presenters.
This is how Rofhiwa Mukwevho, a 23-year-old radio presenter for Univen FM from Vondo village outside Thohoyandou who hosts the 03:00 to 06:00 early riser show, remembers his early beginnings in the industry.
“To make it in the radio broadcasting industry, you need hard work and to show the dedication needed to keep delivering the best production,” he says.
Mukwevho says he enjoys keeping listeners happy and entertained.
His journey to become a radio presenter was not easy.
“I had sent several demos of myself presenting, but was not considered. I remember my first audio was not considered back in 2018. I kept on sending demos, and in 2019 I was informed that Univen FM is looking for presenters. I went for auditions and on the same day I got a slot as the presenter for the Early Risers.”
He often finds it difficult to balance being a presenter and a student, but through commitment, he ensures that he manages his time well.
“I always make sure that I finish all my school work before I go to the studio. I sometimes spend sleepless nights studying during exams. I often don’t have enough time to spend with my family.”
He advises those who wish to become radio personalities to understand that “they cannot force themselves into the industry”.
“It is only through talent, the love for communication, dedication and commitment that you will succeed as part of the radio staff. The industry has a lot of pressure, but passion and love will keep you going,” he said.
